About

Rita Jackson began sculpting in stoneware clay more than 60 years ago. From the beginning, she developed her own method to create the tender world she saw so clearly in her mind. Today, Rita still sculpts and paints every detail by hand.

Like many artists, Rita is many things. Gardener and seamstress, poet and baker, friend and mother, grandmother and storykeeper. And oh, the stories she could tell. Her work has taken her around the world and into the hearts of so many incredible people, from Indiana to New York City, from England to Japan.

In the tradition of self-taught artists, Rita is passing her techniques and wisdom to the next generation. Her son Ben Jackson and daughter Allyson Baughman both sculpt, paint, and contribute to the family’s unique style of hand-building.

The family’s work can be seen by appointment and at special gatherings in Indiana and Kentucky.
